Keeping The Flame: Movie Night

Hello My Gypsy Friends!

This is my first post in a series I'm calling "Keeping The Flame!"

The posts in this series will give details on how Esteban and I keep our fire burning for each other. Here you will find simple things you can do in your relationship to stay in love. I am in no way giving professional advice, I just so in love and never dreamed of the day when I would feel anything like this. So take this post lightheartedly and try out some of the fun things we do to stay in love.

The movie theater near our place has discounted tickets every Tuesday night for members of the rewards program. If there is a new movie (like John Wick 3 last week & Men in Black this week) we try to make the time to attend a show. We don't go every week, but there has been a couple good new releases recently.

After work we get dressed up, well down, into our "comfies" and grab a simple bite to eat, then rush to the candy store before we settle into the reclining seats.

It's always exciting to get dolled up in your best, but embrace the simple days too. Take off your makeup, throw on some sweatpants and let the real you shine.

It's important for us to have little date nights throughout the week. I believe our world is so stuck on having fun on the weekend and working all week. Maybe this comes from the 9-5 society, but be present during the work week and try to fit in enjoyable activities into your schedule. This movie started at 6:30pm, which gave us just enough time to eat and get our candy beforehand. We made it home with plenty of time to wind down and get ready for the next work day.

If you are running behind to catch a flick, I hear the previews are about 13 minutes long. However, I recommend getting settled in when the previews are rolling. That way you can nestle in, chat a bit before the actual film and even play a game.

If you are up to it, try the soda guessing game next time you're at the theater. (Or really any where that has these soda machines) While the other person is getting napkins and straws, fill up your cup with a new combination. Then when you get to your seat, make them guess until they get it right. I'm usually a straight Sprite kinda gal, but adding orange in the Sprite was quite tasty... or was it orange Fanta with lemon?

Another easy, peasy tip to make your movie night out of the ordinary, is to pick out each others candy at the store. Don't let them see it until they get into the movie seats.

This will also help you see what the other person knows about you.

For this movie I grabbed Esteban sour punch straws. I used to eat these all the time and I know he loves sour candy. Today Esteban got me chocolate caramel squares with lions printed on them... and if that doesn't scream Mariah, I don't know what does. I know if we picked out our own candy, we would have never grabbed these two items.

It is small things like this that will help your movie night not feel routine. By switching up your favorite candy or the flavors in your soda, it just makes the movie more exciting.

You can also look up movie theater hacks and try a new one out every time you go.

This trip we tried out using a straw at the butter machine......... it did not go well.

Let me know in the comments what other things you have tried to make your routine dates a bit different than the last.
